To obtain my Masters in History from USD I need to either write a thesis or create a documentary. I am leaning towards the documentary because I really do enjoy filming and editing together but it could end up taking more time then if I just wrote a paper (I still have to write a paper along with the documentary but it can be considerably shorter).

So it is never to early to start thinking about thesis topics. I just need one that will be fun and exciting but also doable. Here are some of my ideas so far:

  • Airplane Oddities
    • Examine a few different planes throughout history that would be described as odd or peculiar, like the Russian Flying Tank.
  • Aviation in San Diego
    • I live in San Diego and work at an Air & Space Museum. I have a wealth of information at my fingertips. Plus if I go with the documentary project, I might be able to weave it into work because the big head at the Museum would like to create one.
  • Landing on the White House Lawn
    • Brought up by the Museum librarian and it sounds interesting and different. How many times can you think of when a hot air balloon landed on the White House lawn?

If you have any thoughts or ideas please write them in the comments section below.

  1. I think Aviation in San Diego would be your best choice. You could get Ken Kramer to narrate.

  2. Just remember you need to ask, and answer, a question that you pose. Also, you need a book review so I don’t know about the White House one. Why not write about “Why of all places, was the Spirit of St. Louis, built in San Diego”?
