Running Diary Week 3

Running Diary Week 3

Wife and I are training for the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January. Wife has already run both a marathon and a half marathon so luckily she has already created a training plan. This is week 3 of that half marathon training program.

This week felt great. The only hard day was Thursday. Every other day felt good and we actually ran with a decent time. I guess this whole training thing actually does help, who knew.

Tuesday – 3 Miles

3 miles are now the easy runs. We still get up at 6 in the morning and then run for about 30 minutes. Nothing to exciting here.

Thursday – 5 miles

This one felt rough. The night before was late for both of us; we both had meetings. Then the alarm went off at 5:30 am. At 5:30, even God is not yet up. We ran our 5 miles around our neighborhood and saw some areas we had not really ventured into.

Saturday – 3 miles

Score, another 3 miles. A little cold, overcast, and sometimes rainy, but a nice quick and easy run. To think two weeks ago 3 miles was our max.

Sunday – 6 miles

A new record for me!!! We headed down to Mission Bay for this run. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. This run felt so much better than last week’s 5 mile run. We ran with a much faster time (technically longer but our time per mile was shorter). And for all the ladies out there, I did run with my shirt off (mostly to prevent nipple chaffing; it hurts!).

If things continue in this direction I think I might be able to actually run 13.1 miles. Next weekend will be a little difficult with our running schedule due to a trip to Sonoma with the Gennas.

Running Diary Week 2

Running Diary Week 2

Wife and I are training for the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January. Wife has already run both a marathon and a half marathon so luckily she has already created a training plan. This is week 2 of that half marathon training program.

Week 2 started off a little rough. On Tuesday, we had to run 3 miles in order to keep us on our schedule. Exhausted and tired, we did not have the strength. After some discussion between ourselves and with friends who have ran/are running marathons, we decided that we should reduce the number of runs from 5 to 4 a week. A good decision on our part.

Wednesday – 3 miles

Waking up early really makes things work out better. My calves and Wife’s knees started to ache but we powered through.

Thursday – 4 miles

Morning runs start to get hard when they take up more time. We made it the entire route but it proved difficult. Luckily, I had no early classes coming to the museum and Wife has not had early appointments, meaning we did not worry if we ran a little late.

Saturday – 4 miles

Since we could sleep in our run did not start until mid afternoon. The temperature was a little warm for a December day but comfortable enough to run. This run felt much better than Thursday and the only one who really seemed to ache was Killian. His tongue was just about hitting the sidewalk.  Afterward, we decided that Killian’s maximum distance was 4 miles.

Sunday – 5 miles

Lake Murray is a really nice run. A lot of people out walking, running, biking, and roller blading. All these things make running seem to go by a lot faster and our time improved. We ran a faster mile than we did when we ran four. Since this was our first 5 mile run since Moses finally stopped for directions, we felt great.  Gorgeous weather.

Week 2 has ended and we are starting to feel aches and pains but feel good after our runs. For week 3 we will up our mileage and try to avoid permanent injury.

Thanksgiving Day Race Results [Updated with Women's Times]

Thanksgiving Day Race Results [Updated with Women's Times]

Fr. Joe’s Thanksgiving Day Run results are up. You can check out the males reults and the females results (as of this writing the female results page does not work, I will update it when it does).

Sadly the rain did hurt Team Sconis’ runners. We all ran or walked a little slower than last year. However, Wife and I did not push our way to the front like we should have and with the sheer amount of people everyone ran a little slower just trying to get to the starting line.

Below are the Team Sconis’ results (will add female results when I have them):

Husband – 33:18

Wife - 33:18

Christian – 22:25

Robert – 1:07:46

Marna – 1:07:47

Barry – 1:10:39

Pam - 1:11:39

Shalene - 49:56

Francis – 36:45

Running Diary Week 1

Running Diary Week 1

Wife and I are training for the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January. Wife has already run both a marathon and a half marathon so luckily she has already created a training plan. This is week 1 of that half marathon training program.

Monday – 2 miles

Monday went great; we both got out of bed at 6 am and started off the day running two miles. The two miles were easy and we felt like a million bucks.

Tuesday – 2 miles

Tuesday turned out to be a rougher than Monday. We hit the snooze button once and it took us a little longer to head outside. The run hurt a lot more and we barely talked. Waking up early and running only turned out to be fun for the first day.

Thursday – 3 miles

As you know in my previous post, God decided to cry on Thanksgiving and everyone ran in the rain. This was our fifth year doing the race, and this is the first time it has rained so no complaints! According to our GPS watch we ran farther and faster than the official measures. The races clock said 32 minutes while ours displayed 29 minutes.

Saturday – 3 miles

This run was the hardest. We kept pushing it back (went to Target, visited Wife’s grandma, etc.) and Wife finally dragged me outside at 9:30 pm. A little late to be running, especially on a Saturday night. The dog however loved it.

Sunday – 3 miles

Sunday’s run was really nice. We made it out at 7:30 pm, just before we would have called it a night. This one felt nice, even like we could run a little farther if needed. However, Wife forgot to restart the GPS watch at a light so we just eyeballed it. I know we ran faster than yesterday.

Now that week one has ended it will be nice to take a break on Monday. Tuesday however we ramp it up and start raising the mileage!
