This Is Not A Park

not-a-parkYesterday I came home a little early to take the dog for a walk before I headed down to Petco for the Padres game (in which they won, the first game I have attended in years in which they won!). I really only had a few minutes before being picked up so it was a quick walk.

About a block away from home, Killian is sniffing away when a lady tells us not to allow him up to her porch or onto her neighbor's porch on which she stands. She then tells me that "This is not a park."

I understand that their are people out there who take great care and great pride in their homes and yards and that they do not appreciate it when a dog uses the lawn for a bathroom. We also live in a transitional neighborhood so sometimes people do not pick up after their dogs.

Now, I just continue walking and say, "Okay," because her house is obviously not a park. If I were a parent I would not allow my children to play in her "not park." A park usually has green grass, she had some weeds, dirt, and a bit of crab grass. Also, looking at her house makes me think that the last time she had all four sides painted was when Vasco Núñez de Balboa landed on the shores of San Diego. I think about half the paint had fallen off and ran away.

If her house was a park it would be condemned! So now I say to her on the anonymous internet, please take your "not park" to Santee and finish your cigarette. (Her house is the one on the left in the picture above, lovely ain't it?)
