Four and a Half Years of Awesome

Four and a Half Years of Awesome

For the past (over) four and-a-half years, I have had an awesome job that allowed me to teach kids about flight and space, meet/hang out with people like the first and last men to walk on the moon (along with many before, between, and after), and run the social media outreach for a cultural institution.

As I just mentioned, working at the San Diego Air & Space Museum allowed me to meet astronauts, such as Wally Schirra (the first astronaut I ever met, I brought him coffee), Scott Carpenter, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Eugene Cernan, Al Worden (here and here), Bill Anders, Franks Borman, James Lovell; movie stars like Harrison Ford; and so many many more.

During this same time of meeting celebrities, I built up the social media outreach for the Museum. I started by opening a Twitter account (@SDASM) for the Museum during the first special exhibition, Star Trek: The Exhibition (see some videos here, here, and here). The YouTube pageFacebook page, WordPress blog, Flickr page, and Tumblr quickly followed. I started the first social media outreach in Balboa Park (@balboapark) and let it grow.

Thanks to the opportunities the Museum offered me, I have procured a position at the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau as the Interactive Editor. I will be able to take my “part-time” job of social media coordinator at the Museum and turn in into a full-time position.

After leaving the Museum, I will definitely miss the my colleagues, the fun I had, and the people I have met. However, I look forward to my new position and the possibilities that it will offer me. The past four-and-a-half years have led me this new job and for that I am grateful.

Three Cheers for SDASM!!! (Sorry, on a 18th century naval kick)

  1. Loooooooooooove this photo, dahling, seriously. Wistful and winsome (winsome, lose some) and good enough for an album cover. Be sure to come on back and see the kiddies from time to time!
