The 7-Eleven just down the street installed a new Red Box DVD rental kiosk. Now I know you must wonder, why does it matter? You already have a Netflix account! It matters because now I can bike down to 7-Eleven and rent a movie in less than 5 minutes roundtrip and with coupon codes freely available on the internet, the DVD can be free (even if the coupon does not work, the DVD only cost $1).
Just tonight I rented my first movie from Red Box and watched it (X-Men Origins: Wolverine – not that great, X-Men 2 is still the best). Even though I deserved a night off after reading over 450 pages in the past week (300 to read this week), I must remember self-control when I have so many options of wasting time in front of the television.
Now if you will excuse me, I must return the DVD (you only get it for 1 day).

we just redboxed wolverine last week. agreed that it was very disappointing. we also had a funny thing. i was using my iphone to see if the redbox we were standing in line for had it in there. there were two redboxes and it said one had it and the other didn’t, so we stood in line for the one that did. we stood a long time as the family ahead of us read every info blurb about all the kid movies in there (which is a lot). a guy came and returned a movie to the other redbox. for some reason i refreshed my iphone and it said the other redbox now had wolverine. that guy had returned it and it immediately showed up online! go redbox! we grabbed it quick so that movie only stayed in there about 3 minutes
That is what makes it so awesome! The waiting can be a downside. I had to wait while one guy decided to read about every single movie in the box. Once he left, I returned the movie in about 30 seconds. Still worth it though. Now I just need an iPhone!
But Netflix also has Watch It Now included in the monthly fee, so there’s stuff to watch even when all your movies are in the mail! Granted, it’s no Wolverine, but what is?
Very true, however you do not get the new releases with Watch it Now and sometimes that is what we want to watch right then.
There is a service online that breaks down your usage of Netflix and tells you haw much you spend per movie and for the DVDs we spent around 3 dollars per, but for the Watch it now it was down around 20 cents per view thanks to my Roku box.
this has been at the vons at our house for at least 3 years. still don’t get the draw over using netflix and if you really need it now, downloading from a service such as itunes or amazon. plus no blu-ray
iTunes/Amazon cost = $3.99 for standard or $4.99 for HD (if offered). Red Box = $0 with coupon. Seems to be a cost savings to me. And I do not have a Blu-Ray player.
